CRC Supports Student Veterans at Ventura College

The Ventura College Foundation recently presented scholarships to 140 students during its 32nd Annual Scholarship Awards luncheon and ceremony. As a part of this event, California Resources Corporation (CRC) was pleased to present CRC’s Veteran Student Scholarship to Ventura College student Jesse Rodriguez in the amount of $1,200. Since 1983, the Foundation has been providing financial support to students at Ventura College, setting up students for success and enhancing the impact of Ventura College in the community.

CRC established our Veteran Student Scholarship in 2015, which provides eligible Veteran students with a minimum grant of $1,000 per year based on an essay writing process judged by the Ventura College Foundation Selection Committee. Since its inception, CRC has distributed more than $4,000 through the Foundation to assist Veteran students with the financial costs of pursuing college, and encourages academic success while promoting an easier transition to civilian life.

Justin Peters, CRC Safety Officer and a Veteran who served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne, volunteered for the third year to represent CRC at the ceremony and present the recipient with CRC’s Veteran Scholarship. Justin stated, “I am honored to support The Ventura College Foundation and represent CRC’s efforts to honor the service of veterans by supporting their educational pursuits. It is very gratifying to make a difference in the life of a deserving student who also has served our country so bravely.”

Jesse sent a thank you to CRC that read, in part, “I am honored to be the recipient of the CRC Veteran Student Scholarship. I was very happy when I learned of my selection for this honor and I am deeply appreciative of your support. Growing up in a less privileged community has not only offered its own set of financial and academic challenges but has helped me realize the value of a college education. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”
