CRC Serves Veterans on Veterans Day

In honor of Veterans Day this month, CRC celebrated the heroism and sacrifice of our nation’s military heroes and their families through a series of events held across the state. Through our activities, and in conjunction with veteran service organizations and non-profits, we were able to support, honor and connect with service members and their families, including many of our very own employees, who served our country and volunteer countless hours to help our communities thrive.

Here’s a snapshot of some of our regional events and activities we were proud to host that celebrate our nation’s military heroes:

Bakersfield

Unveiling of Heroes Way at CRC Plaza – Monday, November 11th

CRC hosted a Medal of Honor & CRC Heroes Way Naming Ceremony on Veterans Day at CRC Plaza in Bakersfield. The event commemorated the memorial of two local Medal of Honor recipients, Larry Pierce and Leonardo Alvarado, and their families. During the ceremony, the entrance to CRC Plaza was renamed “Heroes Way” in their honor. Todd Stevens and Congressman Kevin McCarthy provided remarks for the ceremony.

 

Honor Flight Breakfast at Veterans Affairs Center – Thursday, November 7th

Several CRC Plaza employees participated in serving breakfast to the Veterans of Honor Flight Kern County, a non-profit with a mission to honor and send America’s veterans to Washington D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor for their service to our country – at no cost to the veteran.

Cook Off at Bakersfield Veterans Center – Monday, November 11th 

CRC veterans and employees served meals to veterans and their families at the US Dept of Veterans Affairs Center in Bakersfield. This effort to recognize local veterans provided opportunity for veterans and their families to enjoy conversation, music, and food after attending the parade. This is the 5th year of CRC’s continued support to the center that provides outreach, counseling, and benefits assistance for veterans in the area.

Los Angeles

Annual Compton Homeless Stand Down for Vets – Saturday, September 14 – 16th

CRC was a main sponsor of the three-day stand down in Greater LA, where hundreds of homeless veterans received access to free resources like healthcare, dental, employment and social services, among many more. CRC veteran Stu Iriarte gave welcoming remarks and shared his military story.

Los Angeles Chargers “Salute to Service Organization of the Week” Game Day – Sunday, November 3rd

Go Chargers! CRC, as a participating sponsor, nominated Fisher House Southern California to be recognized as the “Dedicated Service Group of the Game” at the Chargers Salute to Service Game. The Fisher House Southern California provides over 15,330 free nights of temporary housing every year to military families during hospitalization of their loved one for an illness, disease or injury.

Valencia Valley Elementary School Flag Assembly & Veterans Breakfast – Friday, November 8th

Valencia Valley Elementary School had a Flag Assembly honoring active and retired military and first responder family members of students. CRC provided the breakfast and goodie bags for all the honorees.

Land of the Free Golf Tournament – Monday, November 11th

CRC sponsored the Land of the Free Golf Tournament and four CRC veterans participated. Land of the Free is a nonprofit organization that provides military veterans with services to make the transition from military to civilian easier, financial assistance, and career and education assistance.

Los Angeles Rams “Salute to Service” Week Featuring Daily Military Appreciation Events – November 11-17th

As part of the Los Angeles Rams and CRC’s year-round military appreciation efforts, Salute to Service Week presented by CRC featured daily activities that culminate with a Salute to Service Game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football on November 17. Throughout the week (Nov. 11-17), the Rams  partnered with veteran service organizations and non-profits to support the military community and to honor, empower, and connect with service members, veterans and their families. Events included Holiday Cards for Heroes, US Vets Breakfast & Beatification Project, Therasurf with Veterans, and many, many more.

Long Beach

CRC LA Basin 2019 Charity Golf Tournament benefitting Fisher House SoCal – Friday, November 8th

CRC employees, contractors and retirees participated in this year’s 4th annual CRC LA Basin Veterans Day Charity Golf Tournament benefiting Fisher House Southern California. Exactly 184 golfers took the course at El Dorado Golf Course in Long Beach to help raise $9,500 for this great organization.

Ventura

Oxnard Chamber Military Appreciation Dinner – Friday, September 20th

CRC employees welcomed a large crowd and nine honorees at the annual Oxnard Chamber Military Appreciation Dinner. The award winners represented the U.S. Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Channel Islands Air National Guard. They were selected from more than 10,500 women and men on active duty in Ventura County by their commanding officers for not only doing heroes’ work in the field, but for devoting their time and energy to strengthening the community.

Gold Coast Veterans Foundation Golf Tournament and Truck Donation – Monday, October 14th

CRC donated a gently used Chevy Silverado truck to the Gold Coast Veterans Foundation in Ventura County and sponsored their annual golf tournament fundraiser. The truck will provide transportation for the Foundation’s Mobile Veteran Outreach program that delivers a range of services to at-risk Veterans in difficult-to-access locations such as homeless encampments and freeway overpasses.

Ventura College Veterans Resource Center – Recognition and BBQ – Monday, November 4th

CRC sponsored the Veteran’s Appreciation Luncheon at the Ventura College Veterans Resource Center, free to all VC Veterans and their families, students, staff and faculty. CRC employee and veteran Maira Castro provided remarks on behalf of our company.

Sacramento

Veterans Day with Colusa Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) – Wednesday, November 6th

For the last four years, CRC has supported VFW Post 2441 in Colusa, California, to assist them with the continuation of their Veterans Wall at Veterans Memorial Park. The wall is a beautiful depiction of military scenes and has been commissioned as a symbol of remembrance of all those who fought for our freedom.

In the Sacramento Basin, charitable contributions in honor of Veteran’s Day went to organizations who offer services to veterans or family members of active military.

– Tri-Counties Blue Star Moms (serving troops from Yuba, Sutter and Colusa Counties): Tri-Counties Blue Star Moms will pack and mail as many as 1,000 care packages of snack and hygiene items to troops serving overseas and provide free “Mommy” and “Daddy” dolls to children needing help dealing with the separation of their military parent.

– Field of Dreams, Inc. (Colusa): Provides veterans and their children opportunities to participate in activities such as hunting and fishing in the areas where they work to honor and preserve.
