CRC Employee-led COVID-19 Marathon to Support Frontline Essential Workers
CRC is proud to support our local communities where our employees live and work. Our employees share this deep commitment to helping their communities, which is especially evident during times of need. Robert Sebag, a CRC Drilling Engineer in Long Beach, saw a need in the City and throughout the US for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical essentials for frontline responders, so he stepped up to launch and run his own “COVID-19 Marathon” to help raise money.
On August 15th, Robert began his solo and first long-distance run at the Lions Lighthouse for Sight in Long Beach and finished at the historic Huntington Beach Pier, a total of 26.2 miles. Robert surpassed his goal of $1,500 by raising $5,500 with the help and support of family, friends and coworkers. A matched contribution by CRC doubled his contribution to $11,000. Robert says, “This marathon showed me the power of individual will and just how much good a motivated person can bring.”
He donated all proceeds of his campaign to Direct Relief, a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that is active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries. Direct Relief is dedicated to improving the health and lives of individuals who have been affected by poverty or emergency situations, and they are currently focused on providing PPE and other medical essentials to frontline responders during the pandemic.
Robert’s inspiration for this effort stems from his personal ties with the healthcare industry. “My sister is a frontline nurse in Seattle and she and her coworkers experienced a shortage of PPE which led to the reuse of masks and other medical supplies to effectively combat the pandemic,” said Robert. “That was my motivation to try and do something to help make a difference.”
We congratulate Robert for completing his first marathon and on the success of his campaign. We also thank him for his selfless act to support our frontline workforce heroes and for being a California Resource!
